FAITH IN THE FUTURE

To keep updated on the latest information regarding the Blue Ribbon Commission’s report to the Archdiocese regarding the elementary and high schools, you can visit their website:  www.faithinthefuture.com.  As you know the recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Commission regarding our parish school was that we merge with St. Andrew School in Drexel Hill.  An appeal has been made by us and St. Andrew School and as soon as we hear from the Archdiocese with their decision concerning our school we will let you know.  Please continue to pray for our faculty, staff, students and parents as we go through this very emotional and trying time.

FOOD COLLECTION SUNDAY

On every second weekend, St. Cyril's will collect canned goods, staple items and non-perishables which will be donated to the local community Food Banks.  This will benefit people in our community who have trouble putting food on the table for their families.  Collection baskets will be marked and located in the main vestibule, as well as the two front Sacristy entrances of the church.  Thank you in advance participation in this new venture for our parish!

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICE

The Catholic Relief Services Collection works at home and abroad to give aid to struggling, poor families. The six worldwide organizations supported by the collection provide immediate humanitarian aid, help obtaining asylum, pastoral support and disaster relief to those who are most in need. Thank you for your generosity.

THE ROMAN MISSAL

Look for a different example of the new translation of the Roman Missal in our bulletin each week!

DURING THE PENITENTIAL ACT:

We are used to hearing:
Coming together as God’s family, with confidence let us ask the Father’s forgiveness, for He is full of gentleness and compassion.

With the new translation, we will soon hear:
Brethren (-OR- brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

THE CATHOLIC STANDARD & TIMES

The Catholic Standard & Times will now be publishing their newspaper on a monthly basis. They will be sending each parish a certain amount of issues at no charge. These monthly newspapers will be available in the vestibules of church. Please be sure to take one home with you each month.

BIG G LABELS

Our parish school still participates in the Campbell’s Labels for Education program. Please save all your "Big G" Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels, along with any blue register tapes from the Acme Markets in Clifton Heights and Bond Shopping Center. There is a container in the vestibule of church where you can drop off these items. Thank you for your support.

MONTHLY MAILINGS

In an effort to cut back on some of our expenses, we will now send monthly contribution envelopes to only those parishioners who actively use them. At this time, we mail out 552 monthly packets of envelopes to parish families. Of those 552, only 160 are used on a regular basis. We will be placing approximately 390 families on our "inactive mailing list". Your families will then receive envelopes for Easter, Christmas and the Annual Block Collection. You can always call the rectory if you decide to be placed back on our active mailing list.

MUSIC MINISTRY

This ministry is open to all who have a talent to share. We need cantors, and, if you play an instrument and would like to participate in our liturgies, please join us. Call Mary Lou Love at 610-623-5160 and leave your name or Maryanne LaMonaca at 610-259-8828.

SUPERMARKET GIFT CARDS

We sell gift cards for Acme, Pathmark and Giant Supermarkets. These gift cards come in denominations of $25, $50 and $100. The parish receives a 5% discount from the purchase of these gift cards. If you call ahead, we will have your order ready for you to pick up.

GUIDELINES FOR SPEAKING AT FUNERALS

The following are recent guidelines from the Archdiocese regarding "Words of Remembrance" at parish funerals.

The Order of Christian Funerals allows for a family member or friend of the deceased to speak after Communion, before the Final Commendation. Only one family member or friend is permitted to speak for no more than three minutes. These words of remembrance are meant to show an appreciation for the life of the deceased. They may take the form of a prayer or an inspirational text.

Those who wish to give a eulogy or to share a story could consider doing so at the Viewing/Wake or at the cemetery.

If you have any questions about this policy, please speak with Father Kearns.

CBS National News featured Tommy's Wish on its Assignment America segment on Friday, April 28, 2006.  You can see the video on the CBS News website. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/28/assignment_america/main1560919.shtml

ABITIBI PAPER RETRIEVER

We are now participating in a Paper Recycling program through Abitibi Recycling Company. You will see the green bin in our schoolyard between the school and the convent. Please bring all your newspapers, magazines, catalogs, envelopes, junk mail and folders to the bin. Please do not place any cardboard, phonebooks or plastic bags in the container. The parish will receive a monthly payment from Abitibi. This is a great way to help the environment and also make money for our parish.

SPONSOR  A  STUDENT
TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

St. Cyril has a program in place to help with the tuition needs of some of our parish families. Many of us were fortunate to receive a free (or almost free) Catholic education. Today that is not possible. Should you wish to help a family with their tuition bills, see www.saintcyril.org/sponsor.htm  click here for more information  or contact the Rectory.  All inquiries are confidential and your support is most appreciated as we try to help those families who are struggling to keep their children in our parish school.
For more information click here.

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is every Friday from 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM.

ALTAR ANGELS

Our "Altar Angels" are in need of extra help on Thursday afternoons cleaning the church. If you would be able to donate an hour or two of your time, please come to church any Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Thank you.

HOSPITAL STAYS

A recently enacted law has affected the longstanding practice of hospitals and nursing facilities to provide information to churches about parishioners who are patients/residents. Because of this new law, the priests and the staff in the Parish office may not promptly learn, or may not learn at all, that a member of the Parish has been admitted to a hospital. If you, or a member of your family, are hospitalized, and you want the Parish office to know, please personally contact the office and identify the patient, the hospital and the room number. Because all area hospitals may not have the same policies allowing the priest of the parish to know when members are patients, direct notice to the Parish from you or your family is a better approach. If you will be undergoing elective surgery, please call the rectory in advance to receive the Sacrament of the Sick (Anointing). Emergency calls will be handled at all times.

There are still bricks available for purchase for our Walk of Memories. Bricks cost $100, $200 and $300. Brochures are available in all vestibules. This is a nice way to remember a loved one, a family who has been in the parish, a wedding, etc. Forms are also available by visiting our website:  www.saintcyril.org/order.
