FAITH IN THE FUTURE
To keep updated on the latest information regarding the Blue Ribbon Commission’s report to the Archdiocese regarding the elementary and high schools, you can visit their website: www.faithinthefuture.com. As you know the recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Commission regarding our parish school was that we merge with St. Andrew School in Drexel Hill. An appeal has been made by us and St. Andrew School and as soon as we hear from the Archdiocese with their decision concerning our school we will let you know. Please continue to pray for our faculty, staff, students and parents as we go through this very emotional and trying time.

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JANUARY 29, 2012
|
PASTOR’S CORNER JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF OUR STRENGTH It seems as though Jesus is willing to be with us where we are no matter what demons beset us. There is no corner, no darkness, or no brokenness that He is unwilling to enter. And He comes to heal, to free us from whatever binds us. How hard it is for us to admit our darkness in need of light, our brokenness in need of healing, or our weakness in need of strength. For most of us, trying to achieve is our basic approach to life. We have a strong desire to accomplish something. More often than not, we not only desire to accomplish something but we make the results of our work the measure of our self-worth. So, darkness, weakness, and brokenness say that we are not worth very much. But Jesus tells us we do not have to depend upon our paltry efforts to be worthwhile. We are invited to depend upon God. How many times do we hear in the gospel, "Ask and it will be given to you" (Mt.7:17), or "Whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you" (Jn.16:23)? And Jesus’ response to those who were in need was never a stingy one. He provided not just a little wine at the wedding feast but gallons of it. The disciples caught not just a few fish, but there were many, their nets were breaking. The crowds were fed so much bread and fish that there were twelve baskets of food left over. The Gospel tells us that God will always hear us, accept us, love us just as we are, but earlier experiences of rejection may make it difficult to trust even God. Let us pray that we might be able to trust God’s love and acceptance, to trust that no matter what demons trouble us, we can ask to be delivered and know that we will be healed. Your brother in Christ, |

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK:
Marge Augustine, Sheela Harty, Devin Doyle, Tom Griffin, Luceil Nolan, Tom Leonard, Mary Woodland, Catherine Mengini, Stephen Mengini, Ron Beard, Sr., Joseph "Tiny" McLenigan, Margaret Basile, Nicky Delvecchio
DECEASED: Gene Aubry

GUIDELINES FOR SPEAKING AT FUNERALS The following are recent guidelines from the Archdiocese regarding "Words of Remembrance" at parish funerals. The Order of Christian Funerals allows for a family member or friend of the deceased to speak after Communion, before the Final Commendation. Only one family member or friend is permitted to speak for no more than three minutes. These words of remembrance are meant to show an appreciation for the life of the deceased. They may take the form of a prayer or an inspirational text. Those who wish to give a eulogy or to share a story could consider doing so at the Viewing/Wake or at the cemetery.

HOSPITAL STAYS
A recently enacted law has affected the longstanding practice of hospitals and nursing facilities to provide information to churches about parishioners who are patients/residents. Because of this new law, the priests and the staff in the Parish office may not promptly learn, or may not learn at all, that a member of the Parish has been admitted to a hospital. If you, or a member of your family, are hospitalized, and you want the Parish office to know, please personally contact the office and identify the patient, the hospital and the room number. Because all area hospitals may not have the same policies allowing the priest of the parish to know when members are patients, direct notice to the Parish from you or your family is a better approach. If you will be undergoing elective surgery, please call the rectory in advance to receive the Sacrament of the Sick (Anointing). Emergency calls will be handled at all times.
SUPERMARKET GIFT CARDS
This program earns money for the Parish or Tuition credit at no cost to you! The parish earns 5% on each of your purchases. Buying these gift cards is an easy habit to start and a great way to help generate needed funds for the parish. Beginning this weekend we will have them available in the vestibules at mass. We sell gift cards for Acme, Giant, Pathmark and Fresh Grocer. They come in denominations of $25, $50 or $100. If you would like to call the rectory during the week to place your order, we will see to it that it is ready for you to pick up at mass that weekend. Call Mary Lou for more information at 610-623-5160. If anyone would like to help sell these gift cards at mass, please let us know. Help is always needed and appreciated.
