St. Cyril School Reunion To Benefit The Save Our School Fund
Our Alumni committee held a reunion to benefit the Save our School Fund. The reunion was Saturday, March 31st from 7:00 until 11:00pm. We began the evening with Mass at 5:00pm followed with a school tour. We had another great turnout, chanced off loads of fabulous prizes, and had the drawing for the Super 50-50. Congressman Joe Sestak attended and it was covered by news from the local TV stations.

September 6, 2006: The School
officially opened today for the 2006-07 school year. This past January
many of us were worried that the school would not be opening this school
year. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. The news
media was out in full force this morning and there was excitement in the air.

Saint Cyril Parishioners once again played a big role in this year's 4th of July Parade. The Parade Marshals this year were George & Arlene Bobnak and the Geromichalos family. Father Kearns opened the ceremonies with the invocation ,and Father Emmons also spoke. Rose Wells once again sung the National Anthem and led the singing of "God Bless America". The Knight's of Columbus had a car in the parade and we also had a float decorated to carry the Geromichalos Family.

Wednesday, March 29th: At the last regular SOS meeting before the March 31st deadline it was announced that we surpassed our goal by over $60,000. We had a surprise visit by a celebrity boxer, and the press was out in full force. We thank the press for keeping the story in the public eye and helping us meet our goal.

March 11th & 12th: We took part in two St. Patrick's Day Parades over the weekend along with the David Dodge Neon. On Saturday we marched in the Springfield parade, and on Sunday in the Philadelphia parade. The Philadelphia parade was covered by CBS 3 and we received a nice plug for Tommy's wish and the Save Our School Campaign. Shown below are a few pictures from the rainy start of the Philadelphia parade.

Inspired by 12 year old Tommy Geromichalos, and aided by a series of articles in the Delaware County Daily Times, the parish held a meeting Wednesday night, January 25th to start an effort to raise the $200,000 needed by March 31, 2006 to keep the school open. Tommy has Cystic Fibrosis and wrote a letter to the Make-A Wish Foundation. (Click here to read Tommy's wish.) His wish was that St. Cyril School would not close and that he would be able to graduate with all of his classmates. His wish became a cover story Sunday, January 22 in the Delaware County Daily Times with photos and a nice article by Gil Spencer on his effort and the school's plight.
Over 500 people show up at the Wednesday night meeting and it was very obvious that the other children and parents in the school share Tommy's wish. "I Believe" posters made by each class were displayed all around the hall, and cheer leaders collected change donations at the entrance. Much larger donations were given by a few area companies and organizations, with one donating $4000 and a number of others donating $1000 each. State Rep. Mario Civera and East Lansdowne Mayor Jim France were in attendance and pledged their support. The meeting was covered by three television stations; 6ABC, NBC10, and CN8, and all three stations gave great reports on their news broadcasts. At the end of the meeting we had a little over $10,000 in actual donations and a few thousand more in pledges; there were pages of volunteers, and even the most cynical were starting to say "I believe".
