The Saint Cyril School Community (faculty, staff, students, and parents) continues to implement our SCS Peacemaking Plan. The Plan helps students to Stop and Think; Consider and Communicate; and Solve and Go in Peace when dealing with a problem.

Saint Cyril of Alexandria School Learning Support Program

The purpose of the Learning Support Program is to teach students in the subject areas of Language Arts and/or Mathematics in a manner that meets each child’s individual learning needs in a small group setting.

Learning Support Program Philosophy

Saint Cyril of Alexandria Learning Support Program is an optimistic Program that firmly believes that all students have the potential to learn. The Primary concern is to educate youth in a supportive environment that best meets their academic needs. As a result, the main focus is on the child’s ability and not their disability. Therefore, an ongoing partnership with the learning support teacher, the regular education teacher, and parent/s will be established with the purpose of helping children succeed in both the learning support class and the regular classroom. With the support and guidance from the Pastor, Father Kearns and the Principal, Sister Barbara Montague, the program will flourish. As always, we value the parent/s and guardian/s who serve as the primary educators and advocates for their child/ren.

Program Administration

A. Qualification for Admission

1. Must have Delaware County Intermediate Unit or qualified outside psychological testing.

2. Admission according to need and limited class size.

B. Evaluation

An Individual Education Program will be written for each child after admission to the program. Yearly goals and short-term objectives will be determined for each student. This will be completed after the special education teacher has ample time to assess the individual needs of the students.

Homework Policy

To reinforce the concepts taught daily, it is vital:

That students complete homework assignments in a neat and careful manner.

That parent/s supervise and sign both written and study assignments every day.

Students’ progress will be monitored very closely. If the above requirements are not met, then examination of the student’s continuance in the program will be determined. Parent/s are the child’s primary teacher, therefore, parental support is the key to a rewarding learning experience for the child. Parent/s will be expected to meet with the special education teacher periodically to discuss any area of concern.

Report Card

Report cards are distributed 3 times during the school year.

The behavior and effort grade are a mutual decision between the special educator and the regular education teacher.

The special educator supplies a written grade for language arts and/or math with a notation "L.S."

The regular education teacher provides a grade with the notation of "M" for any subject with a modified curriculum in the mainstreamed classroom.

SPONSOR  A  STUDENT
TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

St. Cyril has a program in place to help with the tuition needs of some of our parish families. Many of us were fortunate to receive a free (or almost free) Catholic education. Today that is not possible. For the 2004-05 school year, our school families pay tuition of $2,225 for one child; $2,900 for two children and $3,550 for 3 or more children. Should you wish to help a family with their tuition bills, click here for more information or contact Fr. Kearns.  All inquiries are confidential and your support is most appreciated as we try to help those families who are struggling to keep their children in our parish school.

February 24, 2006 - Our school Dance-A-Thon was a great success.  Fox 29 "Good Day Philadelphia" filmed between 6:30 and 9:00 AM, and the event was also covered by CN8, 6ABC, and of course Linda Reilly of the Delaware County Daily Times.  The Phillie Phantic and two of the Sixers Dancers were big hits as well as our dancing faculity.  Great fun was had by all, and the effort raised at least $15 thousand dollars for the Save Saint Cyril School Fund.
